Thomas R. Smart, III

Thomas R. Smart, III, works with a variety of mid-market business owners, providing first-hand insight into the intricacies of the business sale, and solutions that maximize profits. From comprehensive valuation services and identification of qualified buyers, to deal structuring and negotiation, Smart guides clients through the necessary steps to realizing their business goals. Smart also plays a significant role in IBG’s operations and business development strategy, having spearheaded recruitment, marketing, and process development initiatives that proved instrumental in IBG’s substantial growth.

Smart joined the IBG Business Services team in 1992, after successfully selling the training and service company he founded four years earlier. Prior to running his own business, Smart worked in the securities industry handling stock and warrant transactions for small-to-medium sized companies.

Smart takes pride in the collective know-how of the IBG team, and the value it brings to clients:

"Most business owners have the majority of their assets in their companies, and come to us because they don’t know how to get them out. I believe in what we do at IBG, because our services not only help our clients safely navigate the barriers to a successful business sale, but also substantially and measurably maximize their profits."

A University of Florida graduate, Smart has lived in Denver since 1982 and is a licensed Colorado real estate broker and former licensed securities registered representative. A certified PADI open water scuba instructor, Smart enjoys scuba diving, tennis and golf in his free time.
